Any recommendations of 3rd party recovery software or utilities that can assist in either the data recovery and/or re-mouting of the internal HD & repair/diagnostics?īoth systems are currently running Mavericks 10.9.5 Is there any way to connect the two macs to get my files off the macbook with the internal drive un-mounted? These used to do both screen and file sharing, no access to either right now due to the unmounted HD.ģ. There is ethernet on the macbook as well. I've heard the thunderbolt can be connected to the mini port of the Macbook, though the mini port on the iMac doesn't fit with the thunderbolt cable. I also have a 2008 iMac which is working and is backed up w/time machine and also have a new image of its drive on my 4TB external.
#Mac internal hard drive unmounted how to
Need data off that drive before I can erase & reinstall.Īny recommendations on how to get access to the unmounted drive, OR get it to re-mount?Ģ. Tried going through single user mode & the only thing recognized is the CD. Verified, Repaired & checked permissions on the main drive, came back with can't repair back up, etc., but can't back up since it's not mounted. The data stored in this sector will also become difficult to access. These bad sectors gradually deteriorate and can become entirely useless for storing data. It usually occurs when some type of physical damage happens to the drive.
#Mac internal hard drive unmounted install
Had one of my original Mavericks install disks and through that disk was able to get to disk utility and found that my internal HD isn't mounted and it's there under the Main HD but greyed out. Bad sectors may also cause an unmounted Mac hard disk. Mavericks was already installed when I received it. Next, reboot the Mac computer and open Disk Utility > locate and select the unmounted drive > Select Mount at the top menu. I don't have the original Snow Leopard install disk that came with the system as I'm not the 1st owner. First, make sure that your external or internal hard drive is correctly connected to your Mac computer.
I rebooted and it wouldn't load just grey screen w/apple logo and grey spinning cog. Mid 2010 13" Mackbook has a 1TB HD was working fine and while I was doing my work (it just went black).
Seriously need help to resolve this and have a few questions for possible work arounds.ġ.
